Strength and conditioning is an important part of hockey. A player who is in shape is able to perform at a higher level for a longer period of time than a player who is not. The player who is in shape will also be less susceptible to injury and will recover faster if they do get injured. Strength translates into harder shots, faster skating, harder hits, and the ability to outmuscle your opponent in one-on-one battles. Our program is divided into off-season and in-season sections. The off-season portion is designed to build maximal strength as well as get you in shape for the upcoming season. The in-season portion consists of a reduced lifting schedule designed to maintain strength gains made during the off-season and dryland training. Dryland will consist of one or two sessions per week focusing on anaerobic conditioning, speed work, and some strength work. It is very important that you work to build as much strength in the off-season as possible. Once the season starts, given our schedule, it is very difficult to train for maximal strength. Furthermore, our dryland sessions are designed to convert the strength gains made during the off-season into power and explosiveness. This site also provides detailed explanations on all the lifts you will be required to perform as part of your on and off-season programs. There is also a nutrition page which covers proper eating habits and dispels many of the myths and misinformation regarding supplementation. Lastly, there is a links page where you can go to find sites with more information on training. |
